The inner bark of the Linden tree possesses an antispasmodic action on the bile ducts. It is therefore recommended for colic attacks due to a calculus in the bile duct. According to Dr. Valnet, Linden bark is also a hepato-biliary depurative, a uric acid solvent and a biliary and renal anti-lithiasic. Valnet recommends the inner bark of the Linden tree against arthritis, rheumatism gout and also against cellulitis.
The leaves as well as the bark and the seeds of the European Ash are used. European Ash contains two alkaloids, fraxine and fraxidine as well as mannitol. The leaves contain iron and copper. They are depurative, diuretic, anti-rheumatismal… They are used for rheumatism, gout, oliguria, kidney stones, prostatism and arteriosclerosis.
Black Currant berries are rich in anthocyanic and flavonic pigments endowed with a tonic action on the small blood vessels. These pigments are opposed to the formation of edema of the legs.
Solidago or Goldenrod contains salicylic acid, essential oils and saponins. It is a liver and kidney depurative that eliminates toxins from the body. It is also a biliary duct sedative. According to Maria Treben, Solidago is the plant «par excellence » of the kidneys and the gall-bladder. In her book, « Health Through God’s Pharmacy » she reports a case of someone suffering from an atrophied kidney. This person was treated with a blend of bedstraw, nettle and solidago, and recovered.
Black Elder berries also contain an alkaloid, sambucine, and a glucoside, samburigrine. The berries are purgative, anti-neuralgic, anti-rheumatismal… Just like Black Currant berries, they are rich in anthocyanic and flavonic pigments. These pigments have a tonic action on the capillaries and decrease capillary permeability.
